General

What is a Gaylord box?

A Gaylord box is a large, corrugated cardboard container typically used for bulk storage and shipping. They are usually pallet-sized (48" x 40") and can hold significant weight. The name comes from the Gaylord Container Corporation, which originally manufactured them.

What are the common sizes of Gaylord boxes?

The most common size is 48" x 40" x 36" (standard) or 48" x 40" x 48" (tall). These dimensions match standard pallet sizes. We also carry half-height (24"), extra-tall (60"), and other specialty sizes.

How much weight can a Gaylord box hold?

Depending on the wall construction and condition, Gaylord boxes can typically hold between 1,000 to 2,500 pounds. Double and triple-wall boxes can handle heavier loads than single-wall construction.

Buying

What do the different grades mean?

Grade A boxes are in like-new condition with minimal wear. Grade B boxes show light wear but are fully functional. Grade C boxes have visible wear but remain structurally sound. All grades are inspected for safety and usability.

Care & Handling

How should I store Gaylord boxes?

Store boxes flat or nested in a dry, covered area. Avoid direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures which can weaken cardboard. Properly stored boxes can last for years between uses.

Can Gaylord boxes be used outdoors?

Standard cardboard boxes are not weatherproof and should be protected from rain and moisture. For outdoor use, consider plastic-coated or lined boxes, or ensure adequate cover to protect the boxes.

How many times can a Gaylord box be reused?

Depending on the grade and handling, boxes can typically be reused 5-10+ times. Grade A boxes have the most reuse potential. Proper handling and storage significantly extend box life.

What should I do with damaged boxes?

Contact us! Many damaged boxes can be repaired. For boxes beyond repair, we offer recycling services and can pick them up for free in the Houston area.
